HomeServicesDownsizing Support

Downsizing help that moves at your pace.

Leaving a home you've lived in for years is emotional enough without deadline panic. We work through belongings category by category — keep, pass down, donate, sell — and prepare you for the space ahead, one honest decision at a time.

Thirty years of a life, sorted with respect.

Downsizing isn't a smaller version of moving. It's reviewing a lifetime — the kids' schoolwork, the good china, the tools, the 'someday' projects — and deciding what comes into the next chapter. Rushed, it turns into a dumpster and regret. Paced properly, it becomes a gift to the family: nothing important lost, nothing burdensome passed on.

We bring structure and stamina to that process. Sessions run category by category and room by room, with clear staging for family pieces, donations, sale items and keepsakes. We photograph and inventory what's set aside for kids and grandkids, coordinate donation drop-offs, and keep the pace human — you set it, we hold the plan.

The same team handles estate preparation: bringing order to a home after a loss, sorting belongings for family review, and preparing the property for its next step. It's demanding work, and it deserves patience, discretion and zero judgment. That's how we do it.

Dresser drawers sorted and organized during a downsizing project by Temptation Designs

Every drawer, decided — nothing rushed, nothing lost.

Downsizing is measured in drawers and cabinets, not rooms.

This dresser went from decades of accumulation to a curated, labeled set of what actually matters to its owner. Multiply that by a house, at a pace that respects the person who lived there — that's the work.

The Temptation Transformation™ still applies — Discover, Declutter, Design, Transform, Remove, Reveal, Maintain — but downsizing runs on family time, not contractor time:

01

WALK & PRIORITIZE

We tour the home, learn what matters, and build the order: family pieces first, daily living protected, deadline rooms scheduled realistically.

02

SORT & STAGE

Category by category, with staging areas for family, donate, sell and keep. Every decision is yours; we handle the lifting, notes and logistics.

03

PLACE & PREPARE

Downsizing and estate questions.

How far ahead of a move should we start downsizing?

Earlier than feels necessary — ideally two to three months. A lived-in home holds more decisions than anyone estimates, and a paced sort is the difference between choosing what to keep and abandoning what you ran out of time for. We can work faster when needed, but starting early protects the things that matter.

Can you work with my parents if I'm coordinating from out of state?

Yes. We regularly work with adult children coordinating a parent's downsize: we send session recaps and photos, stage family items for review, and keep decisions documented so everyone stays in the loop without anyone having to fly in for every session.

What do you do with furniture and items the family doesn't want?

Saleable pieces are set aside for estate sale, consignment or private sale — your call. Donations are delivered to our partner, Gone For Good in Denver. We handle light hauling for discards. Nothing is disposed of without clear direction from you or the family.

Do you help after a death in the family?

Yes — estate preparation is part of this work. We sort and organize the home for family review, document what's where, and prepare the property respectfully for its next step. We work at the family's pace and coordinate with executors and realtors when needed.

Will you pack for the new home too?

We can. Keepsakes and essentials get packed and labeled by room for the new space — and if you'd like, we also offer move-in unpacking to set the new home up from day one. See our move preparation page for how that works.
